Dr. Jules Zysman

Dr. Jules Zysman

Dr. Jules Zysman was born in Newark, New Jersey. He attended Rutgers University and Rutgers Medical School. He completed his family medicine training at the University of Rochester/Highland Hospital family medicine program where he was co-chief resident physician.

He has been a partner in Honeoye Valley Family Practice since 1980, and in 2007 became managing partner.

Dr. Zysman has been involved in regional medical affairs, having served on the Rochester regional board of directors of Excellus and as a member of the Community Technology Assessment Advisory Board. He is currently on the board of managers of the Accountable Health Plan.

Dr. Zysman is a clinical professor of family medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. Dr. Zysman is a physician for the Honeoye Falls/Lima school district. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Monroe County and New York State Medical Societies.

His honor include: Phi Beta Kappa at Rutgers University, Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society, and he received the AOA clinical faculty teaching award in 2007. Dr. Zysman is married to Dr. Nadette Jacob. His three daughters are Emily, a teacher, Alicia, a family physician, and Claire, a professional modern dancer. His personal interests are family, including his grandsons, Isaac and William, photography, biking, and watersports.

Dr. Alicia Zysman Cromwell

Dr. Alicia Zysman Cromwell

Dr. Alicia Zysman Cromwell was born and raised in Honeoye Falls. She attended Princeton University graduating in 2003 with a degree in Molecular Biology and completed her medical degree at the University of Rochester in 2007. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at the University of Rochester/Highland Hospital in 2010. Her honors include: Alpha Omega Alpha, the Medical Honors Society, Gold Humanism Honor Society, Resident Teaching Award from the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, and the Family Medicine Women’s Health award.

Dr. Cromwell joined Honeoye Valley Family Practice in 2010. She is also a Clinical Instructor of Family Medicine at the University of Rochester. Dr. Cromwell enjoys the full range of Family Practice, including prenatal and obstetric care, care of children, families, and adults with chronic disease. She is passionate about women’s health and preventive medicine. She looks forward to building long lasting relationships with her patients and families. She is excited to be caring for the community in which she was raised and now resides.

She is the daughter of Dr. Jules Zysman and Dr. Nadette Jacob, partners in the practice. She is married to Matthew Cromwell. She enjoys spending time with her young sons, husband, and also enjoys cooking reading, travel and gardening.

Dr Sheryl Ehrmentraut

Dr. Sheryl Ehrmentraut

Dr. Sheryl Ehrmentraut attended the University of Rochester, receiving her Bachelor’s degree in 1983 and her Medical degree in 1987. She completed her Family Medicine residency at eh University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Upon completion of her residency in 1990, Dr. Ehrmentraut worked at Public-Health service sites in rural Alaska, serving Yupik Eskimo Native Americans for two years. Dr. Ehrmentraut then worked as a medical volunteer with international organizations including the International Rescue Committee in Somalia, and the Himalayan Rescue Association in Nepal. Upon her return to the states, she held several Locum tenens positions in western New York. She joined Honeoye Valley Family Practice in 1994. Since joining the staff at HVFP, Dr. Ehrmentraut has had three children, including one with significant special health care needs. She has an in-depth awareness and appreciation for children and families affected by special health care needs.

Currently, Dr. Ehrmentraut holds several volunteer positions. These include the Community Advisory Board for the Strong Center for Developmental Disabilities, and the Transition of Care Committee at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Gaylinn Greenwood

Dr. Gaylinn Greenwood

Dr. Gaylinn Greenwood joined HVFP in 2007. She was born and raised in Milwaukee Wisconsin. She graduated from the University Of Wisconsin Medical School in 1987 and completed her family practice residency at the University of Rochester in 1990. Dr. Greenwood served as family medicine chief resident at Highland Hospital from 1990-1991, and completed some fellowship training in Ob/Gyn, infectious diseases and adolescent medicine during that time. From 1991-2007 Dr. Greenwood worked in an underserved, urban community in northwest Rochester, as an employee of Unity Health System. Dr. Greenwood’s interests include, reading, writing, gardening, mountaineering, and international travel.

Dr. Mariesa Howe

Dr. Mariesa Howe

Dr. Mariesa Howe was born in Evanston, Illinois, but spent most of her childhood in Baton Rouge, LA where her father still resides. She spent her high school years in Maryland, and attended St. Mary’s College of Maryland where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology with a minor in piano performance. She then worked for two years as a laboratory technician in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. In 1996 she entered the University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Medicine and subsequently did her Family Residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center in Syracuse, NY where she served as Chief Resident. From 2003-2005 she worked at Dartmouth-Hitchcock/Cheshire Medical Center in Keene, NH and served as the Medical Director of the Student Health Center at Keene State University. She practiced for one year in Greece, NY at West Ridge Family Medicine with the University of Rochester, and was pleased to join Honeoye Valley Family Practice in December 2006.

Dr. Howe met her husband, Dr. Paul Howe, also a Family Medicine physician, during their residency in Syracuse. After practicing in New Hampshire for two years, she and her husband relocated to Rochester in the fall of 2005 to be closer to family. They also enjoy the Finger Lakes and Adirondacks. She and her husband are thrilled to be the parents of two young energetic children who continually keep them on their toes.

Dr. Howe enjoys the full scope of family practice, for newborns to the elderly, with a particular interest in preventative medicine. Her personal interests include gardening and cooking, travel, outdoor activities, and exploring all that Upstate New York and her local community have to offer.

Joseph Picca, MD

Dr. Joseph Picca

Originally from Long Island, Dr. Picca first moved to upstate New York for an undergraduate degree at Siena College. He then attended medical school at Albany Medical College where he graduated with honors. His residency training then took place in Philadelphia at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he also served as Chief Resident during his last year there. Dr. Picca became Board Certified in Family Medicine after completing his residency in 2007. He joined Honeoye Valley Family Practice in August of 2007. He also serves as a Community Preceptor for medical students from the University of Rochester and PA students from Rochester Institute of Technology.

Dr. Picca’s professional interests include a focus on primary prevention of disease, management of already established chronic disease and in-office procedures. He also believes in the importance of building long lasting relationships with patients and their families. “Helping my patients make the best health care decisions for themselves is the primary goal of my practice.”

In his personal life, he is married and is blessed with two energetic and fun loving boys. When he is not working or playing with his kids, he also enjoys outdoor activities such as golf, running and cycling.

Dr. Lisa Gambino

Dr. Lisa Gambino

Dr. Lisa Gambino joined Honeoye Valley Family Practice October 1, 2008. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in biology at the University Of Notre Dame, her Doctor of Medicine degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and completed Family Medicine Residency training at the University of Rochester-Highland Hospital Family Medicine Program. The University Of Notre Dame awarded Dr. Gambino the Lawrence H. Baldinger Award for competency and character. She was board certified in Family Medicine in 1984 and recertified in 1990, 1996, 2002, and 2008.

Prior to joining Honeoye Valley Family Practice, Dr. Gambino practiced family medicine and urgent care medicine in the Rochester area and served as Medical Director of the Rushville Health Center from 2001-2004. She is a Rochester native, is married, and has a teenage daughter. She enjoys all aspects of family medicine, including pediatrics. Dr. Gambino’s interests include biking, swimming, music, reading and school and church activities.

Dr. Jennifer Frese

Dr. Jennifer Frese

Dr. Jennifer Frese was born and raised in Harrisburg, PA. She attended Bowdoin College, where she received a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Physics and minor in Latin American Studies. After working as a systems and software engineer developing medical equipment, she changed careers and attended Dartmouth Medical School. At Dartmouth she was honored to be inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha (the Medical Honors Society) and to be named a C. Everett Koop scholar. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at the University of Rochester/Highland Hospital, where she served for an extra year as chief resident.

Dr. Frese joined Honeoye Valley Family Practice in 2013. She is also a Clinical Instructor of Family Medicine at the University of Rochester.

Dr. Frese enjoys all aspects of family practice, including caring for children, families and the elderly. She has a particular interest in prenatal and obstetrical care, as well as welcoming newborns to the practice while they are still in the hospital.

Outside of medicine, she spends her time with her husband chasing after their three sons, Henry, Calvin, and Linus. They enjoy cooking, hiking, and reading together.

Our Retired physicians:

David A. Ness MD

Dr. David A. Ness

Dr. David Ness received an AB in 1965 from Harvard College and an MD in 1971 from University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry where he was elected to AOA. He completed post-graduate training in the Family Medicine Program based at Highland Hospital where he was co-chief resident his senior year. In the summer of 1974, he reopened the medical practice here at 23 Ontario St, which had stood vacant for nine months. In 1980 he was joined by Drs Mary Kay Ness, Jules Zysman, & Nadette Jacob. Dr. Ness works part time in migrant health, and works some each year in Clinica Corban in Oaxaca, Mexico. Besides managing the property at 23 Ontario St, he plays trombone in the community band and in a trombone quartet. He likes vegetable gardening and canoeing in remote areas.

Mary Kay Ness MD

Dr. Mary Kay Ness

Dr. Mary Kay Ness received a BA from Wellesley College in 1964. She took several years off to have a family, and then entered the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1973. In 1977 she received an MD with honors from University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry where she was elected to AOA. She completed her postgraduate training in the Family Medicine Program at Highland Hospital in 1980. She then joined her husband, David Ness, in family practice, along with Dr. Jules Zysman and Dr. Nadette Jacob who were classmates in the Family Medicine Program. Dr. Ness and her husband work about one day a week with the Finger Lakes Migrant Health program and spend 3 months a year doing medical mission work in Oaxaca, Mexico. She also enjoys visiting family, refinishing furniture and doing outside activities like canoeing, walking.

Dr Nadette Jacob

Dr. Nadette Jacob

Dr. Nadette Jacob was raised on Long Island. She graduated from SUNY Stonybrook with a degree in chemistry. She did biochemistry graduate work at Columbia Universtiy and worked in research at Princeton University. She attended Rutgers Medical school. Dr. Jacob completed her family medicine training at the University of Rochester/Highland Hospital family medicine program.

Dr. Jacob has been a partner in Honeoye Valley Family Practice since 1980. She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Monroe County and New York State Medical Societies. She retired in 2013 to care for her grandchildren.

Our Nurse Practitioners:

Maggie Bank BS MSN FNP

Margaret Bank BS MSN FNP

Maggie Bank is a Family Nurse Practitioner at Honeoye Valley Family Practice, and has been a provider in the group since 1985. Maggie received a B.S. degree from Cornell University and an M.S.N. from Yale University. She holds national board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She has a background of thirty-three years as a nurse practitioner in primary care. Prior to joining the HVFP group she held positions in the Primary Care Internal Medicine Program at the University of Michigan and later in the Family Medicine Program affiliated with the University of Rochester.

In addition to providing direct care to patients in all of these positions, she has been both a classroom and clinical Instructor to master’s level nurse practitioner students, medical students, and family practice residents. She was a co-recipient of the annual teaching award given by the Family Medicine residents, and is a member of nursing national honor society Sigma Theta Tau.

Alexa Schneider CPhD MS RN FNP NY-SAFE

Alexandra Schneider PhD MS RN FNP NY-SAFE

Alexa is married, and has a son, daughter-in-law, and teenage daughter. She graduated in 1986 from Roberts Weslyan College with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, completed her Masters in nursing at St. John Fisher College, as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 1997 and completed a Doctoral Degree in Counseling Psychology in 2010.

Alexa worked several years at Strong Memorial Hospital in various departments before transferring to Rochester General Hospital to work in their Cardiac ICU. Additional past and current nursing experiences include working as a Community Health Nurse, Nursing Faculty in various Nursing programs, Cardiac Rehab Nurse at the JCC, Private Duty Nurse in the home of high tech pediatric patients, Forensic Nurse Examiner, and Family Nurse Practitioner in Family Practice and Student Health.

Alexa is a member of various associations and is past President of the Nurse Practitioner Association, Greater Rochester chapter. She serves on several local and national boards, including the NYS Board of Nursing.

She is honored to be a part of the Honeoye Valley Family Practice team and values treating the whole person and educating patients on disease prevention.

Sue Cannon RN

Sue Cannon, RN, CDE

Sue Cannon was born in Dover, New Jersey, one of four children. She has resided in Honeoye Falls for over 30 years.

Sue graduated from Alfred State College with her degree in nursing. She has been a staff nurse at Honeoye Valley Family Practice since November of 1981. She has also enjoyed working in the private duty area providing mother/baby care, hospice nursing, elder care and is a Certified Instructor for the American Red Cross.

Sue is mother to four children and grandmother to two, Tyler and Zachary. Sue lost her 3rd child, Peter in a car accident. Sue has been very involved in providing support to parents suffering from a loss of a child.

In 2010, Sue began developing a program for Diabetes Education for the practice. “I love teaching and helping patients develop their plan for better health.” Sue became a certified diabetes Educator in 2013.

Sue’s personal interest includes bicycling, gardening, traveling and being a grandma.

Jenn McKay, RN

Jenn McKay, RN

Jenn joined HVFP as a nurse in June 1997, and moved into Care Management in July 2013. Her new roles include touching base with patients after being discharged from the hospital to be sure their needs are being met, and also one on one care coordination for complicated health concerns.

Karen Holden, RN

Karen Holden, RN

Karen has been employed by Honeoye Valley Family Practice since 1980. She earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing at Keuka College. Her professional experience includes pediatrics, medical-surgical and prenatal educational obstetrical nursing and women’s health. She developed the maternity program here at Honeoye Valley Family Practice with Dr. Alicia Zysman Cromwell in 2010. The maternity program continues to grow as she and Dr. Cromwell have been joined by Dr. Jennifer Frese.

Ginger Arcadi - Nurse Manager

Ginger Arcadi – Nurse Manager

Ginger Arcadi is the Nurse Manager at our office. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Niagara University in 1979.

Ginger has been employed at Honeoye Valley Family Practice since 2008 and was promoted to the Nurse Manager position in 2010.

Originally from the Rochester area, Ginger enjoys spending time with family, traveling, and doing taxes during the tax season.

Our Nursing staff

When you call our office, there is always a nurse available to talk to you. We can answer many of the questions you may have about your medications, give advice about some home treatments you may want to try and help you decide if you need to see one of our providers.

"The nurses at our office are a great group of ladies to work with. There are 12 nurses on staff, most of them working 3 or 4 days a week. On average, all have been here about 10 years. It is a great place to work and many chose to bring their families here for care too."

Pam Gillette - Secretarial Manager

Pam has been an employee at Honeoye Valley Family Practice since 2006. She was originally hired for the secretary/Operator postion, and was promoted to Secretary Manager July of 2013. Having lived in the Honeoye Falls/Lima area for the past 27 years, Pam enjoys spending time with her two grown daughters, Bryana and Christie, as well as reading, walking, and gardening.

The secretarial support staff

The secretarial support staff has a combined total of 115 years’ experience working in a medical office. Staff is friendly, welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable, helping to make every interaction a pleasant experience.
